Ana María Martínez opens 2015-16 season with Pagliacci at LA Opera, La Bohème at the Met

Ana María Martínez opens LA Opera’s 30th anniversary season in Zeffirelli’s Pagliacci, performing Nedda opposite Marco Berti and George Gagnidze. Plácido Domingo conducts the epic production featured in a double bill alongside Woody Allen’s production of Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi.

Following her run with LA Opera, Ana María travels to San Juan, Puerto Rico, where she delivers two performances of Cio-Cio San in Puccini’s Madama Butterflya role she has performed to great acclaim: “Martínez sang with a poignant vitality that brought forth both the teenage Butterfly’s youthful innocence and, later, her darkest despair” (Opera News).

Rounding out the fall of 2015, Ana María returns to the Metropolitan Opera where she performs the role of Musetta in Zeffirelli’s production of Puccini’s La BohèmeReuniting with her longtime collaborator Plácido Domingo, the Grammy-winning soprano guests in a gala concert at the Lyric Opera of Chicago on January 9, 2016 under the baton of Sir Andrew Davis. A graduate of the Houston Grand Opera Studio, Ana María returns to perform in the title role in Dvorák’s Rusalka.

Following Ana María Martínez’s critically acclaimed portrayal of Paolina in Donizetti’s Poliuto at the Glyndebourne Festival, audiences can stream the bel canto gem online from The Telegraph. Showcasing Ana María’s “characteristic suppleness of phrasing and subtle understanding of how to present a vulnerable character,” Poliuto will be available to view for one week beginning on August 16 (musicOMH).

Directed by Mariame Clément and conducted by Enrique Mazzola, Glyndebourne’s production marks the UK premiere of Donizetti’s tragic opera. Ana María stars alongside Michael Fabiano in the title role, with the London Philharmonic and the Glyndebourne Chorus.

Poliuto will be available to stream online from The Telegraph and from Glyndebourne.com for one week beginning on August 16 at 5 p.m. BST.

On August 15, Ana María Martínez performs alongside the legendary Plácido Domingo in a concert in Ensenada, Baja California. Ana María and Plácido Domingo have appeared together on stage and in the recording studio on numerous occasions. Recent seasons have brought them together at Teatro Real in Madrid, at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro for the World Cup celebration, and her debut with the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl. Ana María performed under the baton of Plácido Domingo in a recording of Manon Lescaut with the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana alongside Andrea Bocelli – a recording released by Decca Classics in 2014.

Earlier this summer the Grammy-winning soprano and Spanish tenor performed at the Starlite Festival in Marbella and at the Salzburg Festival for a gala celebration of Domingo’s 40th anniversary on the Austrian stage.
